Sunday June 16, 2002 Yankton SDok

Our first stop was Onawa, IA, where we saw a different interpretation of the expedition's boats...

pointing out the problems of interpreting a 200 year old event. We raised our flag here.
Then it was on to Sgt. Foyd's grave at Sioux City, IA. The river had cut away the bluffs where he was buried, so he has been moved several times. Floyd died near here on Aug. 20, 1804.

.

Water Vessel Sgt. Floyd converted into an interpretive center. A great place to visit.

This is Spirit Mound, which was feared by the Indians because they thought a race of "little people lived hereLewis and Clark climbed up here and discovered birds devouring flying ants. They could see for many miles across the prairie.
