May 9, 2004.  At Onawa, Iowa we saw a different set of replica boats.

From Onawa we proceeded on to Sioux city and the site of a monument to the only member of the Corps of Volunteers for NorthWestern Discovery to die on the expedition, Sgt. Charles Floyd.

Our Iowa site hosts Janice & Denise from Iowa Western Community College. Our driver Galen

Today our folks became the first Elderhostel traveling group to hike up Spirit Mound since it has been open to the public. When Lewis and clark came thru here they noted that the Indians thought the mound was inhabited by tiny peope. they would not go near it, but the corps did and discoveed a lot of bugs being eaten by a lot of birds. ok
