May 16, At Great Falls - We camped last night on the banks of the Upper Missouri River at Great Falls, MT. After setting up camp at La Quinta Point, Don Popejoy led a hunting party to an area called Walmart, where we found supplies for a party to be held today at the tent of our expedition artist, Marge Schuler. Monday we will proceed on.
Lois Flanagan ok
First we visited the Charlie Russell Museum for lunch with a program about John Colter by Greg. that was followed by a visit to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center with its great dioramas and displays. Colter was the expedition member who got permission to leave early at the Mandan villages on the way back. Greg told us all about how Colter discovered Yellowstone and had a miraculous escape from the Blackfeet Indians.

Roland Pascal was our flagbearer today. Inside the Interpretive Center we found this statue, among other great displays.
This life size display of the portage canoe really shows off the tremendous strength needed to perform this 18 mile portage.
