Sept. 27, 2006
Kennewick, WA to The Dalles, OR
ok

Rock Fort at the Dalles, OR. Campsite of Oct. 25-27, 1805. Long accepted as a true L&C site, new archaeology is going on to find absolute proof.

Peter Skene Ogden, Fur Trader visited us from the past this morning. Here he is with Robert.

Ogden, a British employee of the Hudson's Bay Company, actively tried to prevent Americans from coming into the Oregon, but here they are, on the Oregon Trail at Biggs, OR
Another place we visited was a replica of Stonehenge, built by Sam Hill (of Maryhill fame)
This morning Gail "found a sheet of paper under her door." it turned out to be a page from the journal of Seaman, Lewis's dog.

Seamanís Journal Aug. 1805

"When we left Missouri we had good food all the way to Fort Mandan. I had fun playing in the snow that winter, but my master and the other men said it was cold. Swimming in the water was fun but running up the hills was hard for me and the men carrying and pushing the canoes.

We had good buffalo steaks on the trek to Missoula and then we had to eat some of our horses. However, by the time we got to the Snake River and the cook served dog, I knew it was time to look for nuts and berries. Maybe I should turn vegetarian. Will we have fish soon?"

Dick Milligan came up with another cartoon. Remember, you can see his whole series in sketchbook
