St. Charles, MO to Independence, MO -- 281 miles / 365 ok

Our visit to the Truman Library was at day's end, but this fantastic Thomas Hart Benson mural makes a great header.

Today we got started on the road. first stop was Arrow Rock, MO, a neat little old town on the Santa Fe Trail, where we ate lunch. L&C passed by here June 9, 1804, a day fraught with boat accidents.

Then it was on to Fort Osage, built by William Clark after the expedition. Great re-creation and great talk about it.

Todays' fort is reconstructed on the original foundations where possible, and certainly on the original location. Below the faint red line above is a remaining part of the original wall.

After dinner, one of my favorites, Jim "Two Crows", Wallen took eight of our group and demonstrated how 3/4 of the old Mountain Men led very short lives.
