Billings, MT to Helena, MT ok

Today's big attraction was the Three Forks of the Missouri River. When Lewis and Clark reached here they thought none of the three rivers had enough character to maintain the name Missouri, so they honored the President, Secretary of State and Secretary of the Treasury.

Part of our group hiked to an observation point to see this view of the first junction.

We ate lunch under "Lewis's Rock", which he climbed on July 27, 1805, to look down the Gallatin River valley

Carefully avoiding the prickly pear cactus which plagued the expedtion, we made our way down to the water, where we skipped rocks in the Madison River.

Here's the Observation group.
