1123...Day 7,  Aug. 4: Pierre, SD to Bismarck, ND + 254 miles = 1377

The day began with a visit to Sitting Bull's South Dakota gravesite, near Mobridge...

...and continued at his other gravesite in Fort Yates, North Dakota

where we also visited the symbol of the Standing Rock Indian Tribe. The legend is that some village was forced to move or chose to move, but one man's wife did not want to move. Shortly after the bulk of the tribe moved the man went back to get his wife, but she had turned to stone, along with a child. Even so they brought her back and installed her on this pedestal. Then it was over to Custer's House at the same park.

We are instructed to "take special notice" of the red drapes. The phrase indicates an original object of the house.
