What did he do?

Truman Library

In the evening Jim "Two Crows" Wallen gets volunteers to demonstrate how long (or short) a life a mountain man had in the 1830s. Bob was killed because he couldn't blow a horn loud enough to warn the camp. Bill, however, had a long and successful trapping life.

Franklin fell in the water and the heavy wool coat dragged him under, Jim could not start a fire with flint and steel, Roger couldn't set a trap. (Two Crows had a little trouble, too)

Jane had a successful career with trade beads, but Bill's gun misfired, and Karleta got botulism from cooking bear meat three times in a lead-lined, copper pot. Only 2 out of eight survived more than two years.
