In the Footsteps of Lewis and Clark
From Illinois to the Pacific
Sept. 13 - 30, 2015

2276..  Day 12, Sept. 24 - Great Falls Area + 63 = 2339

At Decision Point. when Lewis and Clark got here they had a dilemma. Which fork was the true Missouri?

Today's confluence of the Marias and Missouri Rivers.

This historic view shows how the Corps may have had questions.
To make sure of their route they spent 10 days investigating both rivers.

60 miles upstream they came upon the Great Falls of the Missouri River and were faced with an 18 mile portage.

Our viewing spot is on Ryan Island,  the very place from which Lewis first viewed the Great Falls

So, how did we know it was time to go back to the bus? Very creative, Barbara.

A visit to the C.M. Russell Museum. The studio was closed so here are some pix from the archives.
